Kiefer’s Beginnings

Kiefer Built Trailers was founded in 1974 by Arden Kiefer in the small town of Kanawha, Iowa. What began as a modest welding repair shop—known then as Kiefer Welding—operated out of a small garage equipped with just two portable welders. Arden’s craftsmanship and dedication to customer service quickly built a reputation in the local community.

That same year, Arden took the next step and began building pull-type livestock trailers. These early trailers were immediately recognized for their rugged construction and quality, setting the foundation for the Kiefer brand’s long-standing commitment to durability and dependability.

Driven by Arden’s passion for quality and innovation, the business steadily grew. By 1985, Kiefer’s original 2,000-square-foot shop had expanded into a manufacturing operation spanning over 150,000 square feet across two states. The company opened a second facility in Sneedville, Tennessee, focusing primarily on aluminum horse and stock trailers to meet growing demand.

Interestingly, both of Kiefer’s facilities—Kanawha, Iowa, and Sneedville, Tennessee—are located in Hancock Counties, a coincidence that highlights the brand’s strong rural roots.

Today, Kiefer remains a trusted name in the trailer industry, proudly carrying forward Arden Kiefer’s original vision of quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
